Karter, one of my studio’s original rainbow babies…

Karter is our day 5 blue Rainbow for our National Rainbow Baby Day Project!

Karter was one of the first newborns photographed in my very first studio, in Seymour, IN. If you recognize him – I am not surprised! I have photographed him so many times over the years, including his family and two younger brothers! I opened my studio in September 2016, and I photographed him the following April.

Here are his Mother’s words –

January 2016 I found out I was pregnant. I was 18 and terrified, but excited all at the same time. The OB office I was going to didn’t do ultrasounds until after 10 weeks. I finally had an appointment on March 2, 2016, I was 11 weeks pregnant. Going in we were so excited. They take me back to the ultrasound room and we start the ultrasound. The doctor was so quiet, I knew something was wrong. A minute that felt like hours goes by. He says “I’m sorry, there’s no heartbeat.” My world crumbled in that very moment. The baby was only measuring 8 weeks. Flash forward to a week later, I go back in for a repeat ultrasound. Same news, but this time we schedule surgery as my body couldn’t do what it needed to do. I go back the next day for this seaweed stuff to be put inside of me for dilation. The next day, surgery. I couldn’t do anything but cry that day, knowing I would wake up completely empty. Months go by, my mental health has declined and nothing was going to bring my baby back. August 2016, I find out I’m pregnant again. As bad as it sounds, I could not be excited. I was so nervous for the same outcome. Every appointment had me on edge. Finally feeling my baby move, I could breathe and be excited. Flash forward to April 17, 2017. Karter J was born at 9:43pm weighing 7lbs 11oz. One hundred percent healthy. He is now a happy & healthy 7 year old. We couldn’t be more grateful for him.
